Live Your Values

Have you ever thought about what your values are?

Values is a big area of focus for my coaching clients because understanding how to craft and create your values helps you to build a life that is in alignment with who you are to the core.

Values act as guidelines for how you live your life. They help you make decisions, they steer you in the right direction, and they pull you towards being your most authentic self... the very best version of you. Your values are the basic and fundamental beliefs that guide or motivate your attitude or actions

Values could include things like creating, contributing, adventure, beauty, teaching or spirituality.

Values are not necessarily moralistic or based on religion, goals or outcomes, and they aren't set in stone. There are also no “right” or “wrong” values, everyone has a completely unique set, and your set of values will be special and meaningful to you.

“A lot of the conflict you have in your life exists simply because you’re not living in alignment; you’re not be being true to yourself.” ― Steve Maraboli, Unapologetically You

Values are who you really are.

I take my clients through a Values exercise, which helps them to understand values, and to identify and refine their top four values. This puts them on a path to honoring themselves.

Core values point you in the direction toward living a meaningful life, one that’s filled with passion and purpose. You can be your true self instead of letting outside influences like media, pop culture, or social environment to shape your life.

When what you value the most is congruent with what you do, you are standing in your integrity. For example, if you chose 'freedom' as one of your core values, you value “the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint.” So, some actions you could take to be more aligned with freedom are:

- Include enough free time in your schedule.

- Build a life in which you can create your own schedule, travel, try new things, etc.

- Nurture relationships with friends and family who give you the freedom to be yourself.

- Express yourself freely and openly.

- Become your own boss.

So next time something feels off, or you feel a bit out of sorts , ask yourself, “Which one of my values is this going against?”

Some of my own values are: Freedom, Teaching, Family, Loyalty, Peace, and Self-respect.

I can’t tell you how empowering it is, and how much clarity it has given me and my life. I could talk values all day long, but I'll give you a chance to figure out your core values.

4 QUESTIONS TO START LIVING YOUR VALUES

Here are some questions to get you more acquainted with your values, and understand how you can honor them:

What inspires you to take action?

When do you feel most like yourself?

What do I believe to be true about this value?

How does this value show up in my daily behavior?

Values work really is life changing, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Understanding your values, and then actively setting out to honor them will create huge positive shifts in your life. You will start to experience more joy, more fulfilment, more flow and ease than ever before in your life. That what living in alignment with your true self feels like.
